Finding a Pet

If you are hoping to add a new furry friend to your family, you have many options available.  Several local organizations offer mixed breed, as well as purebred dogs and cats for adoption.  There are also many Northern California groups dedicated to the rescue of specific purebred dogs.  We've divided these organizations according to whether they work with large or small dogs.  Northern California is also the home for a small number of purebred cat rescue groups.

Finally, if you buy a purebred puppy or kitten, there are many dedicated, ethical breeders of dogs and cats in our area.  We strongly recommend that anyone considering the purchase of a purebred dog or cat deal only with breeders who are actively involved with showing, obedience, or other forms of competition.
